The German company Continental is planning to open a software research and development center in Novi Sad, in which 500 engineers are to be employed initially, whose gross salaries will be around EUR 2,300.

Starting with July 1, Continental will be developing innovative software solutions for mobility in this city. Continental’s Center for Research and Development will employ 100 people by the end of 2017 and then another 400 over the next two years.

The center will realize projects in charge of the Interior department, which employs over 43,000 people globally and which had sales of EUR 8.3 billion in 2016.

Two business units, Chassis & Safety and Commercial Vehicles & Post-Sale, will start operating in Novi Sad.

– Serbia has climbed up a tier with Continental – Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said and added that the fact that the company was of top quality was remarkably important for Serbia.

– This is the best German investment project so far and a signal for all big companies to come to Serbia – the prime minister said.

He reminded that Continental had been looking to arrive to Serbia three years before, that it had asked the central in Germany for the authorization, but that the conditions had not been as good as they were at the moment, and that their arrival had been enabled primarily by the stable political and economic situation in the country.

– Serbia has climbed up a tier, which proves that we have justified the trust of one such software R&D giant – Vucic said.

He thanked everyone who had helped the software giant arrive to the country.

– I’d also like to thank Axel Dittmann, who always helps German companies to come here. Serbia is no longer a place for production of the lowest value. It is becoming an attractive place for development, science and research. Serbia is beginning to develop components which it will produce itself and which other will be producing as well – Vucic said.

Continental develops pioneering technologies and services in the field of sustainable and connected mobility of people and their products. It was founded in 1871. The company offers safe, efficient and affordable solutions for vehicles, machines and transport.

In 2016, its sales amounted to EUR 40.5 billion, and it currently employs more than 227,000 people in 56 countries.
