Water bottles usually carry an expiration date of one to two years. However, as long as the bottle remains closed, the water will still be safe to drink.
Of course, water needs to be bottled in a hygienic matter for this to be true, says the German SGS Institut Fresenius, which performs laboratory analyses.
Once the bottle has been opened, the water should be drunk in a few days.
A closed bottle prevents microorganisms from entering and multiplying, especially if left outside the fridge, the institute says.
