The construction of a dock worth USD 15.86 million on 5.7 hectares, for the needs of the Kostolac thermal power plant (TE Kostolac), has begun. This is one of the five projects within the first phase of the credit arrangement between Serbia and China.

The dock will primarily serve for the transport of coal, but also of by-products from thermal power plants, such as ash and gypsum, which are then to be used for industrial needs. As announced earlier by the company Ehting, which had prepared the general project in cooperation with the Institute of Transportation CIP, the dock will consist of three operating wharves for loading and unloading, with the total length of 220 meters.

In the first phase, only the transport related to TE Kostolac will be conducted here – primarily the delivery of the equipment for the new thermal power plant, and the Danube coast section beneath TE Kostolac A has been designated as the best location for the construction. The dock should cover the needs of both Pozarevac and the town municipality of Kostolac.

Let us remind that the arrangement with China is worth a billion dollars, consists of two phases and has been realized through a loan by the Chinese Exim Bank since 2012. The first phase entails the construction of the dock, an industrial route 21 kilometers long and a de-sulfuring system, as well as revitalization of units B1 and B2. The works within the second phase will entail the construction of the new thermal unit B3, with 350 MW of power, as well as extension of capacities of the Drmno cut from nine to 12 million tons of coal a year.

All the works are being performed by a company from Beijing, aside from the works on the route and the dock, which have been put in charge of local companies.
