TABAKOVIC: By the end of the year, Euro stays at around RSD 122

The main cause of Serbian currency value increase in the past month is increased confidence of foreign investors and increased purchase of dinar securities, Jorogovanka Tabkovic, NBS Governor, says.

She estimates that by the end of the year euro will remain at around RSD 122. The official middle exchange rate currently totals RSD 121.94 per euro, and as stated by the National Bank of Serbia, in June, dinar strengthened by 0.5% while domestic currency strengthened by 1.1% since the beginning of the year.

Although the governor points out that exchange rate flow is impossible to predict, she says no significant turbulence is expected.

When it comes to the reasons that led to currency strengthening in recent days, governor said there was a balanced supply and demand for foreign currency, as a consequence of balance of payments balance, as well as improvement of foreign trade indicators i.e. export growth.

She said there was more confidence in foreign investors in the future of domestic economy as well as that stability at foreign exchange market contributed to increase in assets of banks related to euro, which essentially means crediting growth, but also foreign currency purchase, as a seasonal phenomenon Blic reports.

The governor reminds that at the beginning of the year there were pressures on dinar which were the result of increased uncertainty in international environment and seasonally increased demand of local companies for foreign currency.

Due to higher import of energy products typical for that period of a year, companies which import these goods were buying the euro and thus raised its price.
