A total of EUR 28,5 m for modernization of lock at Djerdap - Goods transport scope to increase along the Danube until 2020
The lock of the hydroelectric power plant Djerdap 1, undisturbed development of water transport in Europe depends on, will be modernized through this project, and its service life will be extended for 25 years, it was stated.
The project will be implemented in the period 2018-2020, with EU funding 40% of
value of works, or app. EUR 11.5 m, while the remaining 60% i.e. EUR 17 m will
be provided the budget in the next three years (2018-2020).
Serbia will get the funds
for the project that the Ministry applied from the the Connecting Europe
Facility Fund, which represents a European mechanism to support to development
of European transport infrastructure, primarily for European Union (EU)
members.
Lock is one of the most important transport infrastructure facilities throughout the Danube, and its modernization will enable trend of increasing volume of goods transport through the Danube through Serbia, which reached 10.5 million tons last year, which is two million tons more than in 2015.
The works will include replacement of complete electro-hydraulic and hydraulic-mechanical equipment, as well as necessary construction work on the lock.
Implementation of this project, as outlined by the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, will contribute to further fulfillment of European standards in this area of transport and increase the level of competitiveness of the Danube on the overall trans-European transport network.
