Establishing closer ties between science and economy is one of the main requirements for the development of innovations and their implementation in industry, which thereby contributes to the economic growth and the creation of new jobs, for which reason the formation of a council for cooperation between science and economy has been initiated, it was said on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at a meeting between Minister of Innovation and Technological Development Nenad Popovic and the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, Marko Cadez.

It was agreed that it was necessary to find the best model for establishing closer ties between science and economy, such as was present in states like Switzerland, Finland, Israel and Germany, the Government of Serbia reported.

– These states are leaders in innovations and technological development, primarily thanks to close ties their economies have with science and research activities, as well as commercial implementation of knowledge and technologies – Popovic said.

Cadez pointed out that Serbia had great potential in innovations, but that the scientific community and institutes needed to create “a commercial offer for the economy” to a greater extent.

He pointed to the need to enhance the legislative framework in order to stimulate a more dynamic development of high-tech companies in Serbia.

– This will be the topic of a further dialogue between the Government, the CCIS and all other institutions involved in the process – Cadez said.

Popovic praised the efforts made by the CCIS in educating and creating an innovative ecosystem stimulating the formation and development of fast-growing high-tech companies on a national, regional and local level in Serbia, the press release says.
