Following decades of attempts to complete the ownership transformation of the Velika Plana-based clothing manufacturer Perkon, the bankruptcy proceedings ended with an auction sale of the remaining property, the Planamedia portal reports.

The new owner of the once famous exporting sports and designer clothing manufacturer is Safet Saglam, an investor from Turkey. He was the only one to answer the sales ad and meet the legal obligations towards the owner.

He paid the market price, 50% lower than the estimated value. With this transaction, the Board of Creditors ended decades-long obligations, and the current municipal authorities successfully completed the negotiations with the current owner, who expressed intentions to revive the textile industry in Velika Plana and asked for help from the local authorities this spring. What follows now is the signing of the agreement on the sale and the ownership transformation, after which the adaptation of the ruined and neglected plant facilities in the town center is expected to begin. According to Mayor Igor Matkovic, the new owner intends to have around 400 workers employed at the new factory, the number identical to that from before the privatization process.

– We expect the reconstruction of the facility to begin soon and to have 150 workers employed in the first phase, as per the new owner's plans, and then 400 later on. To the local self-government, the opening of the new factories is of great importance, as our priority task is to employ people and create conditions for a reduction in the number of unemployed persons registered at the National Employment Service – Matkovic said and promised full support to the owner of Perkon, as well as to all investors interested in investing in Velika Plana's economy.

About a hundred former employee also expect the sale of Perkon to lead to the settling of their claims related to unpaid salaries and contributions, Planamedia writes.
