Third e-car charger in Serbia installed in Bubanj Potok – More devices to follow in Sid, Subotica and Dimitrovgrad

An electronic car charger at the former toll booth Bubanj Potok, on the highway towards Nis, the third such device in Serbia so far, was put into operation on August 9, 2017.

It will be one of the five chargers to be installed on all important directions of entrance to Serbia, aside from the charger installed in the renovated garage in the Obilicev Venac Street in Belgrade.

According to Sasa Stojanovic, assistant to the minister of construction, another charger is being installed at the moment at the Sid toll booth, and e-car chargers will also be installed at the Subotica South toll booth from the direction of Hungary, as well as at the Dimirtovgrad toll booth from the direction of Bulgaria, whereas one such device has already been installed in Presevo.

– This is a top-category charger featuring the latest technology, which enables fast battery charging in 25 minutes – Stojanovic said for Tanjug.

As he explained, these chargers are meant for vehicles made by all global producers, as they have three connections, two of which are for quick DC charging, whereas the third one is for quick AC charging, and information on all of them regarding the type of charger, the type of connection and occupancy can be checked online in real time.

Darko Savic of the Roads of Serbia emphasized that the installed charger was “not one of the fastest chargers, but the fastest type of charger in the world”, the kind of which is not frequently installed on main routes in Europe.

– They are usually installed by big department stores, big shopping malls, but there are not many of them on the roads. We are the first country to install such a device on a main route, on Corridor 10 – Savic says.

During the promotional period, as he says, the charger will be free to use, while a decision regarding charging for the usage is being prepared. As he added, charging for the service will probably start in September.

– European experiences say that one instance of charging costs between five and ten euros, depending on the capacity of of the vehicle's battery and the e-car itself – Savic says.

The data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs show that there are 128 electric vehicles registered in Serbia at the moment, 90 of which are registered in Belgrade.

As part of the road infrastructure upgrade, the Ministry of Construction has also implemented free wi-fi internet on five lay-bys in Serbia.
