Leoni looking for fourth location in Serbia – German car cable manufacturer planning to open new facility

Since its arrival to Serbia eight years ago, the German car cable manufacturer Leoni has opened factories in three places, and the number of its employees has gone up from the initial 750 to the current 5,770. The company, which celebrates 100 years since its foundation on August 13, announces another big investment in Serbia.

General Manager Clemens Sachs emphasizes that the business climate in Serbia is very suitable to further development and that, thanks to good results, the company is looking for a new location for the fourth factory.

Leoni has facilities in over 30 countries worldwide in over a hundred locations. Its three locations in Serbia are Prokuplje, Malosiste and Nis.

Tatjana Kalicanin says that she is very satisfied with her job and that Leoni allows one to develop professionally, whereas the salaries are secure.

– I started working in Leoni eight years ago on the assembly line. Now I’m the head of the shift, which provides increased security and better earnings for my family – Maja Mitic says.

As the leading employer in the Municipality of Prokuplje, the company has had an important role in the reduction of unemployment.

– The unemployment rate had dropped from 43% to 24% thanks to the company itself and the jobs offered by the subcontractors – Miroslav Paunovic, Deputy Mayor of Prokuplje, notes.

Leoni has been active in Serbia since 2009, and it opened its first facility in Prokuplje. It was one of the first investments by big German companies from the automotive industry.

The leading producer of car cables, primarily for BMW and Jaguar, employs 5,770 workers in Serbia.

– Leoni is growing and developing in Serbia, with the tendency to reach the number of ten thousand employees in the future – says production manager at Leoni Prokuplje, Aleksandra Pesic.
