As Beoinfo reports, Mayor Sinisa Mali and representatives of Beocista Energija signed a lease agreement, whereas the representatives of Beocista Energija signed agreements with subcontractors Knim and Energoprojekt.
Sinisa Mali said that this was one of the most important agreements signed by the City of Belgrade in the previous few decades, and the value of the investment is around EUR 300 million.
– This agreement is important as our partners will fully arrange the landfill in Vinca, which will solve the problem of several decades, the worst ecological disaster in this part of Europe. We will make a facility for the treatment of solid waste, from which heating and electrical energy will be produced. This project will make us be more efficient and build as many recycling islands as possible in order to recycle as much municipal waste as possible – Mali explained and added that the said agreement was the biggest PPP agreement signed in that part of Europe.
He thanked the foreign partners and said that the city would try to be efficient in issuing building permits and everything necessary for the construction of the facility to start in late 2018.
Marie-Ange Debon, SUEZ Groupe Deputy CEO in charge of International segment, pointed out that the company had been active in Serbia for a number of years and reminded that they had been there thirty year before when the Makis waste water treatment was being constructed.
– Aside from waste treatment, the facility will also enable the production of green energy. This will attract other investors. I am sure that a successful realization of this project will send a message to the international community and that SUEZ will continue investing in Serbia and Belgrade – Debon said.
The IFC, member of the World Bank Group, advised the City of Belgrade in the procedure of PPP in providing the services of treatment and disposal of municipal waste and provided expert help to the city in all phases of carrying out the procedure of competitive dialogue.
