The construction of the Subotica-South toll booth has been completed, and, according to the Magyar Szo daily, following the construction of this toll booth, the Government of Serbia is expected to adopt the road toll price list in the upcoming days. The toll on the section from Subotica to Sirig will amount to RSD 120, whereas the toll on the section between Sirig and Novi Sad will remain at RSD 110, bringing the total road toll on the section from Subotica to Novi Sad up to RSD 230.

State Secretary at the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, Imre Kern, said that the toll would be collected through an open system until all the toll booths were completed.

– The investments will be completed by the end of the year, when the closed system payment is to be implemented – the state secretary said and added that the toll from Subotica to Belgrade would remain at 540 to 560 dinars.

He added that the toll in the closed system would be charged in line with the mileage, making, for example, a trip from Backa Topola to Feketic proportionally less expensive than to Novi Sad or Belgrade.

– The construction took a bit longer than planned, as not all exits could be closed at the same time, which would have disabled drivers from turning to either Backa Topola or Vrbas. We therefore decided to first close the exit at Cantavir, Feketic and Sirig. Vrbas and Back Topola are to follow – he says.

– The truth is that the exit at Feketic is very complicated, whereas, at Sirig, there is not even a toll gate yet. The construction of a toll gate is complex, as it requires the provision of electricity, heating, the construction of the facility and the paving of the road. Once the gates at all exits are constructed, the toll collection at Sirig will start, which will probably happen in late December – Kern added.

He also announced the extension of the toll booths at Subotica and Stara Pazova.

– Since there were big jams at the toll gate last summer, although the one near Subotica has a 40% larger capacity than the one in Sirig, we will add two gates at Subotica and four at Pazova next year. We will thereby try to make the flow of traffic through the gates even quicker, so as to avoid summer jams – Kern explained.
