Leoni picks location for fourth facility in Serbia – Mercedes cable system plant to be raised in Kraljevo

The management of the German company Leoni has decided to raise its fourth facility in Kraljevo, deputy manager of Leoni Serbia, Aleksandra Pesic, told Beta.

The facility in Kraljevo will produce cables and cable systems for Mercedes, whereas the facilities in Prokuplje, Malosiste and Nis produce cables for BMW and Jaguar, she said and added that, the Kraljevo facility included, Leoni would have over 10,000 workers in Serbia after 2020.

As she added, Leoni currently employs around 6,000 people in the facilities in Prokuplje, Malosiste and Nis.

– The Nis facility has around 200 workers and will have around 1,000 employees by the end of the year. By 2020, the number of employees will reach around 2,200 – Pesic said.

According to her, Leoni has invested EUR 55 million in total in Serbia so far.

– The tendency is for the amount of investments to exceed EUR 100 million in a few years – Pesic said.

Leoni's total sales in Serbia in 2016 amounted to EUR 4.4 billion, whereas this year's sales are expected to be higher by 10% based on the results achieved so far, she said.

Pesic said that the company's management sought to invest in human resources and development of new products in Serbia and that 15 scholarships for students from various faculties would thereby be provided.
