Scientists at the National University of Singapore decided to take action, coming up with a drink they called Sachi.
Associate professor Liu Shao Quan and PhD student Chua Jian Yong turned the yellowish liquid into an alcoholic drink through fermentation, and the entire process took three months.
Sugar, acid and yeast were added to the whey to produce the drink, which has a floral, fruity flavor and has an alcohol content of 8%. In addition to tasting great, it allegedly has impressive health benefits.
Considering that tofu is made from soy, it contains a high level of nutrients, whereas the why is rich with calcium.
Quan said that the new drink provided health benefits like bone health, heart health, and cancer prevention.
The shelf life is currently four months, but the duo are working on doubling it without using the common preservatives.
