Testing of 12,300 candidates for retraining in IT sector begins

Electronic (online) testing of 12,300 citizens who had applied for the contest of retraining in the IT sector, organized by the Office for IT and eGovernment, started on Friday, December 8, 2017, and will last until Sunday, December 17, the Office announced.

The candidates most successful in solving the questionnaires and tests for determining professional capabilities and interests, personality types and command of English, will be given an opportunity to attend retraining programs and acquire a beginner’s knowledge in programming.

– In this phase, we want to determine the ability of candidates to be successful in the field of information technologies – Mihailo Jovanovic, Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment said and added that a record number of candidates of various profiles had applied once again.

As he said, 52% of the applicants have graduated from faculty, whereas 48% have finished high school. Among them, 61% are unemployed, and the average age of the candidates is 33.

– The process of selection will be completed by the end of the year. During the training, which will be organized throughout Serbia, the best among them will be given a chance to master some of the most popular programming languages – Java, Java Script, PHP, .Net and C. The programs will last from three to six months – Jovanovic pointed out.


The retraining program has been initiated in order to reduce the unemployment rate and secure workforce for the IT sector. It has been created based on a survey showing that, in the next year, 118 IT companies in Serbia plan to employ 1,000 beginner-programmers.

So far, 97 attendees have been trained, 70% of whom have been made interns or employees in an IT company.
