Interest in Serbia growing among investors from Far East – Japanese Prime Minister visiting Belgrade, meeting between businessmen of both countries held as well

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe began his two-day visit to Serbia as part of his European tour on Monday, January 15, and following the welcome at the airport and in front of the Palace of Serbia, attended by the president and the prime minister of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic and Ana Brnabic, a meeting between the delegations and businessmen of the two countries was held as well.

The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, Marko Cadez, said that it was pointed out at the meeting with Japanese businessmen that Serbia was a country of big possibilities and a place worthy of attention and investments.

As Tanjug reports, the meeting was attended by representatives of big global Japanese companies, among which are Mitsubishi, Japan Tobacco, Yazaki, Sumitorno, NTT-data, SRA and others, where the Serbian companies present included primarily members of the Japanese Business Alliance, among them Sirogojno, Comtrade, nectar, HiTech, ITN, Lucic Grupa and others.

As Cadez pointed out, the interest of the Japanese companies present is a great incentive to local businessmen. He added that a special meeting had been held previously, including representatives of 16 Japanese and 36 Serbian companies, and said that the exporting potentials of Serbia had been presented at the meeting.

Brnabic also said at the meeting between the delegations of Serbia and Japan with the businessmen of the two countries that Serbia was a country with a stable economy and stable public finances.

– Serbia is now strategically considering its development, innovations are a new challenge now and we want to learn from Japan in that respect, as the 21st century economy is based on digitization, creativity and development of all those skills that Japan is developing very successfully – Brnabic said.

As Beta reports, Vucic pointed out that Japanese businessmen had the greatest free trade possibilities in Serbia thanks to agreements signed with the countries of the region, the European Union, Turkey, Russia and Belarus.

There's no better place than Serbia for Japanese companies to make a profit, he underlined.

– In the past couple of months, we've reached agreements with Japanese companies on the desulfuring project at the Thermal Power Plant Nikola Tesla, the waste treatment project in Vinca and the opening of the Yazaki plant in Sabac – Vucic said.

Abe pointed out that Japan and Serbia had a long tradition of friendship, but that there was room for the economic cooperation to improve.

At the plenary meeting between the businessmen of the two countries at the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade, he said that Japanese companies were increasingly more interested in Serbia and that the Japanese Business Alliance had visited Serbia not long ago as well.

– I hope for this visit to be fruitful – Abe said and reminded that 16 managers of Japanese companies had arrived to Serbia.
