Working version of amendments to Constitution in the field of judiciary published

The Ministry of Justice of Serbia published the working version of the amendments to the Constitution in the field of judiciary on its website on Monday, January 22, 2018. The text, whose publication was also recently announced by Minister Nela Kuburovic, was prepared in cooperation with former member and standing expert of the Venice Commission, James Hamilton.

The working version of the amendments to the highest legal act of Serbia is the result of a half-year public discussion, within which the Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with the Office for Cooperation with the Civil Society of the Government of Serbia, organized six round tables in several towns in Serbia.

At the round tables, experts and other interested parties were able to present their positions on the amendments to the Constitution in the field of judiciary.

The draft amendments to the Constitution, as said, will be sent for review to the Venice Commission, whose positive opinion is needed for the amendments to enter the further procedure of adoption. The working version will also be subject to a new round of public discussion to be carried out by the Ministry of Justice.

The ministry invites all interested parties to familiarize themselves with the working version of the amendments and to provide suggestions and opinions at the upcoming public discussion, says the press release by the Ministry of Justice.
