"Beginning of new era for Serbia" - Eighth economic summit of Serbia gathered over 400 local and foreign companies
The Eighth economic summit of Serbia, the meeting dedicated to the review of opportunities for quicker development of the country and strengthening of its European prospects, started today (November 4, 2008) in hotel "Hyatt Regency" in Belgrade. This meeting will gather over 400 representatives of local and foreign companies.
Two-day meeting named "The Beginning of New Era for Serbia" is organized by Greek company "Tsomokos group international", and its work will be helped by the delegation of the leading Greek companies and business groups, as well as by the representatives of the Government of Serbia and the diplomacy corps.
- Serbia is on the right way. It is a safe country for investments and it has political stability. That is why we invested nearly 0.5 billion EUR in Serbia - said Teodor Karakasis, the Deputy Director for International Operations of Eurobank EFG Group with the headquarters in Athens.
According to the announcements, one of the themes at the meeting will be the economic policy of the Government whose aim is to enable quicker economic development, higher employment rate, as well as improvement of living standard of the citizens and development of regionally important projects.
Participants in the Summit will take into consideration all the steps that Serbia should take in order to get the status of the candidate for membership in EU prior to the end of year 2009.
The Economic Summit of Serbia was organized for the first time in 2000, after the democratic changes in the country, and its aim was to enable establishment of cooperation between the Government of Serbia and international institutions and representatives of foreign companies, thus affirming economic cooperation, which enables business partnerships in the region and attracts greenfield investments in Serbia.
