The ministers of foreign affairs of Bulgaria, Romania and Greece supported the construction of a Balkan gas hub and the process of the European integration of the countries of the Western Balkans on Monday, March 12, 2018.

The joint declaration, adopted during the meeting of the ministers – Ekaterina Zakharieva (Bulgaria), Nikos Kotzias (Greece) and Teodor Melescanu (Romania) – in Bucharest, states that the three countries will cooperate on the development of a Balkan gas hub, which is expected to improve the security of supply and diversify gas routes, the Bulgarian agency BTA reports, citing a press release by the press service of the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministers also expressed support to the construction of the Bulgarian-Romanian and the Bulgarian-Greek gas interconnector.

– I am certain that the Balkans will remain the key priority during Romania's presidency over the European Council – Zakharieva stated.

It was said once again that the EU enlargement was a key factor of the region's stability and prosperity and the expectation was expressed that all six economies of the Western Balkans would make progress on their path to Europe in the upcoming years.
