Magneti Marelli PCMA, which produces frontal and rear bumpers for Fiat 500L in Kragujevac, is to become a part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and be renamed as Fiat Plastic on May 1, Danas learns.

Fiat initiated the takeover of one of the three Magneti factories in Kragujevac, the one for the production of plastic car components, in October 2017, and the process is to be officially completed by the end of the next month, the Belgrade newspaper reports.

Experts following the events in this field remind that Magneti, a subsidiary of Fiat, announced that it would raise and open a plant for the production of plastic components with around 1,000 workers in Kragujevac and add that the current acquisition might signal the beginning of the realization of this business endeavor.

It is much more probable, however, that Fiat is looking to have a producer of plastic components under its wing in Kragujevac, as it does in Pomigliano, Italy, and other places it has factories in, which is another serious indication that the company intends to stay in Serbia after the recent (in September) ten-year agreement with the Republic of Serbia on the foundation of a joint company.

In any case, the workers at Magneti Marelli PCMA received guarantees from the management that their salaries would be raised beginning with May 1, that is, that their average salaries would amount to around RSD 42,500 a month, the amount earned by their future colleagues at FCA Serbia. As they say, they were also promised that their employment contracts wouldn't be terminated at the end of April and that they would be transferred to the factory with a new owner and a new name instead. The management announced that the fixed-term employment contracts would be transferred as well.

Magneti Marelli has another two factories in Kragujevac – Magneti Marelli Automotive, for independent production of exhaust pipes, and Magneti Marelli PMC, in which it produces instruments, car door lining, trunk lining and other products in cooperation with Adient. As Danas learns, the workers at the latter factory are growing increasingly more dissatisfied and the employer refuses to negotiate about the employees' demands.
