Yandex launches map editing service in Serbia

The Russian technology and IT company Yandex has launched a Yandex.Maps editor in Serbia, through which users for Serbia can create and improve town maps with the help of the Yandex team.

Good maps, as they say at the company, will help the local populace and tourists to better orient themselves in the location and find the correct routes more quickly.

No special knowledge is required to edit a map, and the service is based on satellite images, on which numerous objects can be marked: streets and squares, buildings and entrances, stores, traffic lights and road cameras, Yandex says in its press release.

Company owners can add their companies' addresses and working hours, and these data will be made available to everybody who uses Yandex.Maps for iOS or Android following a checkup.

– Yandex.Maps for smart phones help people find places and addresses and they are actively used in Russia, former USSR countries and Turkey. They are now to appear in Serbia as well, where we are translating the app into Serbian, and out cartographers are updating the maps together with users – says Andrei Strelkov, Head of Geoinformational Services at Yandex.

A pilot project for an upgrade of the map of Kragujevac has also been initiated, and meetings were held in several towns in Serbia where Yandex experts trained students to use the editor.

The Yandex.Maps editor was launched in 2010.
