This weekend, Belgrade was visited by around 15,000 foreign tourists, largely due to the EuroLeague Final Four. The city will earn 18 to 20 million euros thanks to the organization of this basketball tournament alone.

– Everybody is staying for three or four days, which makes for EUR 300 per person a day, as basketball tourists spend a little more than football ones. The city and its entire economy will therefore earn at least 18 to 20 million euros. We are being broadcast in over 200 countries of the world, and a promotional film about Belgrade is shown at the beginning of each broadcast – says City Manager Goran Vesic.

Vesic says that this is one of the most important sports events here, but also in Europe. He adds that Belgrade has been trying to become the organizer of the tournament since 2014 and that the aim is to have one big sports tournament in Belgrade each year.

As he says, the city got to organize the Final Four tournament precisely because it has built a large number of hotels and the infrastructure in Belgrade since 2014 in order to be able to host the tournament.

Vesic also announces that Belgrade will host the EuroBasket Women tournament next year.
