Serbia will open new chapters in the accession negotiations with the EU on June 25 in Luxembourg, the EC confirmed for Tanjug.

European diplomatic sources say that the opening of two chapters is likely. They don't rule out the possibility of EU members' agreeing, by June 25, about the opening of another chapter either, say Tanjug's sources in Brussels.

Serbia has opened 12 of the 35 chapters, two of which are temporarily closed.

The member states are now evaluating the report on Serbia's annual progress, published by the EC in April. The report presented mixed result when it comes to what has been achieved regarding the rule of law in the country.

Five chapters for which Serbia has submitted its negotiation positions are now before the member states. These are chapters 33 – Financial and Budgetary Provisions, 9 – Financial Services, 13 – Fisheries, 18 – Statistics and 17 – Economic and Monetary Policy.
