Banks’ nine-month profit in 2008 – 33.7 billion RSD
According to the data provided by the National Bank of Serbia, banking sector in Serbia registered 33.7 billion RSD worth of profit before taxation for nine-month period in 2008, which is 10 billion RSD more than they earned one year before. Nine banks ended the year with losses, while 26 banks achieved positive financial results.
Banking capital in Serbia reached the amount of 418 billion RSD, which is
89.5 billion RSD more than at the end of year 2007. Securities and other
capital are worth 329.5 billion RSD. At the end of September 2008, the
organizational network of all banks encompassed total of 2,630 business units, branch offices, bank windows,
agencies and exchange offices.
Local banking sector had total of 32,010 employees, which is 679 more than at
end of the second quarter of year 2008. Eight banks cut the number of staff (OTP
dismissed 35), while 27 banks hired additional manpower (Alpha Bank employed
131, KBC Bank – 76, ProCredit Bank – 66, etc.)
Total balance of banking sector at the end of September 2008 amounted to
1,713 billion RSD, 64.9 billion RSD more than in the second quarter of year
2008.
The credit activities grew by 65 billion RSD (7.5%) in the third quarter of
year 2008.
