Apples from Serbia might soon become available in the Indian market, which is second only to the Russian market in the price it pays for the fruit, Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic stated on July 18 and added that the negotiations about the export of fruit to India had been completed.

– We are insisting on apples the most, as India is the second market in the world by the price it pays for our apples. For example, the Russians pay 55 to 60 cents for a kilogram, India pays 45 to 50, and the price in the EU is 20 to 25 cents – Nedimovic said.

The minister said that Serbia thereby opened a new market for apples.

– We are preparing ourselves for the moment when the demand in the Russian market might drop due to their own production. I must emphasize that the situation in agriculture will be extremely good this year regarding the GDP – Nedimovic believes.

He also said that there would be enough wheat for the local market and that Serbia would have at least two million tons of this year's yields for export, whereas the production of corn is expected to set a record this year as well, breaking the 2016 record. The minister reminded that the certificates for the export of wheat to Egypt and for the export of corn to China and Indonesia were to be obtained soon.
