Belgrade City Architect Milutin Folic talked to Moscow representatives in charge of subway development, and the Russians offered to help Belgrade carry out its biggest infrastructural project, Novosti learns.

At the invitation of the City of Moscow, Folic attended the Urban Forum, the biggest event of its kind in the world, which was held from July 17 through 22. The attendees were also addressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin presented the changes which had taken place in the capital of Russia in the past few years – from the city for cars to the city for people. Special attention has been paid to pedestrians, cyclists and the development of public transport.

– We've used the opportunity to learn about the latest global trends in the development of major cities at the forum. Cities are developing in a humane spirit and priority is given to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport, which is the direction Belgrade is developing in now – Folic pointed out.

According to him, the forum is an opportunity for concrete projects as well.

– The architects of the Diller Scofidio + Renfro studio have accepted the invitation to come to Belgrade and look into the possibility of taking part in the development of the Line Park, which will be built in Belgrade on the stretch of the railway from the Pancevo Bridge to Kalemegdan. This project will transform Belgrade thoroughly and connect parts of Palilula, Dorcol and Kalemegdan with the biggest natural potential we have, which are rivers, and offer numerous features to citizens, such as children's and sports playgrounds, benches, green areas, art – Folic pointed out.

Folic added that Belgrade still had a lot to do in order to stand shoulder to shoulder with major world cities.

– Moscow is one of the best examples in the world, as it has transformed thoroughly in only five years from a city of cars to a city for people. The person who inspired these changes in Moscow was Danish architect Jan Gehl, who recently visited Belgrade and took part in the preparation of the strategy for our city – Folic said.
