In the past nine years, Russia's Gazprom Neft has invested around EUR 2.5 billion in the development of Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS), stated Alexander Dybal, member of the management board at Gazprom Neft.

He also stated for Vecernje Novosti that NIS had transformed from a national Serbia company into an important player in the energy market of the entire Balkans and that the development of the company continued. He added that he was satisfied with the way Gazprom Neft operated in Serbia and with the cooperation with the Government of Serbia.

– When we bought NIS, it was a stagnating company with losses and no perspective. NIS is now a profitable company which contributes considerably to the budget of Serbia – Dybal said.

Dybal said that, thanks to the new facility for deep processing of oil at the Pancevo oil refinery, the construction of which will soon be over, NIS will become one of the most successful companies in the world by the key efficiency indicators.

– NIS was the first one to start dealing with alternative energy and traditional electrogeneration. In cooperation with Gazprom Energoholding, the company is realizing the project of a thermal power plant in the territory of the Pancevo oil refinery. We plan for the power plant to start operating by the end of 2020 – Dybal said and added that NIS also planned to realize the Plandiste wind farm project.

According to him, the investments for both projects amount to a total of around EUR 300 million, and big investments of Gazprom Neft produce results significant to the Serbian economy and create the conditions for Serbia's strategic development in the future.
