Two locations were in the running for the project, one in Stari Kacki Put Street on the Backa coast of the Danube and one in Rokov Potok, located on the Srem side of the river in the extension of Petrovaradin.
As recently confirmed by Vladimir Stojkovic, a member of the City Council for municipal affairs, the central facility, one of the most important investments in the Novi Sad municipal system, should be located on the Rokov Potok site, in line with the recommendation made within the feasibility study.
– The total value of the first phase of the construction of the central waste water treatment facility has been projected at EUR 70 million, but the amount is expected to be even bigger – Stojkovic noted during the discussion about the city budget rebalance at the previous session of the City Assembly.
He said at the session that one of the main requirements for the beginning of the construction was for a new main pumping station to be built close to the new road and rail bridge, formerly Zezelj Bridge, on the Novi Sad coast of the Danube.
– The plan is to set aside RSD 860 million from the city budget for the first phase of the construction, with a half of the amount to be set aside this year, and the other half next year – Stojkovic explained.
This big and important project also entails the construction of other collectors and pumping stations.
Facility capacity
As planned, the preparation of the necessary technical documentation and other preparatory works will take about two years. The plan is for the central facility to be able to handle the waste water treatment needs of a populated area of 400,000 residents.
Feasibility study
The preparation of the feasibility study with the general project for the central facility costs EUR 300,000.
The money has been provided by the technical assistance facility for the Western Balkans – Stojkovic says.
