Hard as it may be to believe, horror movies can be very beneficial to the health, at least according to some researchers. The benefits, however, depend on how scared you were while watching.

Here’s how you can “profit” from watching scary movies:

Lose calories

A study carried out in the UK in 2012 showed that people who get very scared while watching a horror movie can lose up to 184 calories, as much as is burnt during a 40-minute walk.

Raise your immunity

Horror movies can help your immunity. Shortly after watching a movie, circulation speeds up and blood pressure rises, increasing the organism’s ability to defend itself from unwanted intruders.

Improve your mood

Watching horror movies improves your mood considerably, at least according to sociologists. People feel less anxious, less frustrated and happier after watching a horror movie.

However, to feel the benefits of watching horrors, you need to be scared while watching them.

It also shouldn’t be forgotten that horror movies can leave permanent consequences on children and traumatize them. As many as 26% of the students who took part in a study at the University of Michigan said that they had been traumatized in their childhood watching horror movies, resulting in permanent anxiety.
