"Zepter" and "Singidunum" offered 5.7m EUR for "Prosveta"
- The consortium made of Belgrade-based University of
Singidunum and company "Zepter Book World" has offered 5.7m EUR for
takeover of Belgrade-based "Prosveta" and the investment of 2m EUR
within the next two years – the Privatization Agency announced on March 13,
2009.
The other bidder, company "Media II" from Belgrade, has offered the
price of 3.2m EUR and the investments worth 100,000 EUR.
These two bidders have met the qualification terms on the tender for sale of
70% of capital of “Prosveta”, which was announced in November 2008.
The tender dossier has been bought by another four interested buyers – one of
which is Polish company "Liberatas" – but they have not submitted the
obligatory bids.
All companies that have been dealing with publishing of books and other
publications over, at least, last three years and registered incomes of more
than 2m EUR and published minimum 30 monographs in 2007 were able to
participate in the tender.
The buyer will be obliged to stay in the publishing business within the next 10
years, as well as to keep bookstores "Geca Kon" in Belgrade’s
downtown.
"Prosveta" published 91,221 books in 2007, which is 60% more than one
year before, and it increased incomes by 66%, reaching 1.35m EUR. The company’s
profit amounted to 4,000 EUR.
The state owns about 99% of that publishing company whose property is estimated at 6m EUR.
In addition to bookstores “Geca Kon”, "Prosveta" also owns a building in Čika Ljubina Street, bookstores at Terazije, in Kosovska Street, at Zeleni Venac and on Kopaonik, warehouses in Dobračina Street and Dušanova Street, as well as space at 380 square meters where theater "Boško Buha" is settled.
