New EUR 100 and 200 banknotes have improved security features

The new versions of EUR 100 and 200 banknotes have improved security features and are smaller, making them easier to handle and carry.

The banknotes presented by the European Central Bank (ECB) are equal in height to the EUR 50 banknote, so they will be subject to less wear and tear.

At the top of the silvery stripe a satellite hologram shows small € symbols that move around the number and become clearer under direct light.

Executive Board Member Yves Mersch said in his speech unveiling the new banknotes that over a million ATMs would need to be adapted before the banknotes are put into circulation on May 28, 2019.
