The Ministry of Health of Serbia has ordered increased control on border crossings due to monkeypox appearing in western Europe, and Zoran Panajotovic of the sector for inspection operations of the Ministry of Health says that border crossing control has been intensified, with sanitary inspectors performing control 24 hours a day.

Panajotovic explains that this is a precautionary measure due to the occurrence of the first cases of monkeypox in western Europe.

– This means that the control of aircraft arriving from areas under risk has been implemented. So far, it's only passengers from Nigeria, and we will start controlling passengers from other countries as well if need be – Panajotovic told TV Prva.

He explained that passengers are sent immediately to the Institute for Public Health, where they give information about how long they stayed in Nigeria, which places they visited and whether they came into contact with monkeypox patients.

As he says, for the time being, there's no danger of monkeypox spreading to Serbia, and the measures are only precautionary.
