Another attraction in Apatin prior to beginning of summer – construction of pier for passenger ships close to end
Apatin’s 65m RSD worth of pier for passenger ships, situated only hundreds of meters away from Marina, in front of restaurant "Zlatna kruna", will be put in operation prior to the beginning of summer tourist season. According to Mile Đukić, CEO of Tourism Organization of Apatin, the main works on construction of the pier have already been finished, and the works on lighting system and final “make-up” are underway.
- It has been estimated that all the works will be finished and that the pier will be functional within next 30 days. However, the problem lies in the fact that the programmes for cruising tourists for this year were made at the beginning of the last year, so that our pier will be officially included in the offer in 2010. By the way, the story of pier in Apatin is more than one century old. Very few people know that Apatin had a pier back in 1905. After the World War II, there was no interest in revival of the pier, but that idea was born again in the 1990’s. The Tourism development strategy of Municipality of Apatin, which was made in 1998, anticipated development of cruising tourism and construction of pier – Mile Đukić explains.
As Đukić points out, the project was elaborated by Belgrade-based PIM Engineering, which started carrying out the works on the pier at the end of the last year, and the elaboration of the project was financed by the municipality (2m RSD).
- We did our best to do everything according to global standards – says Đukić and points out that the pier is 75 meters long.
According to his words, during the previous four months of construction of Apatin’s pier, stilts have been placed some 50 meters away from the bank, and there is a big platform made of concrete pontoons between them, as well as access bridge 50 meters long and 2 meters wide.
By the way, the whole project is financed by Town Hall of Apatin, the Republic of Serbia and the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. Town Hall of Apatin paid for elaboration of the project (2m RSD), while the rest of the funds has been provided from NIP and the Capital Investments Fund.
