(From the press conference) On October 11, the German producer of solutions for the transfer of energy and data in the car industry Leoni will officially mark the beginning of the construction of its plant in Kraljevo, where the works began in August. With the completion of this facility in early 2020, Serbia will be the only European country within the Leoni cable system division, which contains four production units.

– By the end of 2019, 6,800 m2 of the factory in Kraljevo will be built. The first products will leave the factory in February, and the construction part will be finalized by the end of 2019 – announced Clemens Sachs, Managing Director of Leoni Serbia.

Since it started operating in Serbia in 2009, Leoni has invested around EUR 90 million in facilities and equipment. The company employs around 6,000 people in Malosiste, Prokuplje and Nis, and with the full capacity of the factory in Kraljevo, the number will grow to over 10,000, whereby the German investor will become the biggest employer in the industrial sector in Serbia.

As Serbia grows more important in the strategy of development of the Leoni division of cable systems, the Managing Board organized, for the first time in the past 10 years, a meeting of managing directors outside of Germany, on September 25-26 in Serbia.

There has been a constantly growing trend in the company in Serbia since the first factory opened in 2009, they say.

In 2017, the sales amounted to EUR 150 million, and since 2009, 1.5 million cable sets have been produced. The purchasers of the products from Serbia are the leading car manufacturers, among them BMW and Mercedes – it was said at the press conference in Nis.

– We believe in the development of our business in Serbia. In the new factory in Kraljevo, we will provide modern conditions for several thousand people. On the other hand, we need a predictable and stable political and economic environment in order to secure a further growth of our business in Serbia – Martin Schutem, a member of the board of directors at the Leoni Group and the director of the Leoni division of cable systems, said following the meeting of the managing directors of this division in Nis.
