Philip Morris launches new production system in Nis

(New facility) Philip Morris International (PMI) has launched a new production system at its factory in Nis, worth EUR 3 million, which fully automates the handling of finished products, the press release says.

This new investment is a part of a three-year investment cycle worth a total of USD 44 million, which aims to establish new production capacities and modernize the existing ones in line with several years of growth of the export from the factory in Nis. The export of cigarettes increased nearly 4 times – from 6.9 billion cigarettes in 2014 to 25 billion in 2017, the press release adds.

Aleksandar Jakovljevic, Managing Director for South East Europe at Philip Morris, stated that the company would continue improving the factory's production performances actively and added that the factory was already one of the most modern ones in Philip Morris' global network, which is why, last year, 80% of all cigarettes produced in Nis ended up in around 50 markets worldwide.

– With the latest investments, through which we have automatized and modernized the system for the handling of finished products, we have not only optimized the logistics, but also largely contributed to workplace safety – Jakovljevic said and emphasized that the launch of this modern facility would not reduce the need for employees' engagement, but create the possibility for increasing the planned production and exports.
