IKEA Serbia realized very good business results in its first financial year, with sales amounting to over RSD 5.6 billion (EUR 47.2 million). The IKEA department store in Belgrade welcomed 1.8 million customers, and over 10.4 million people visited IKEA.rs, the company announced.
– In a young market such as the one in Serbia, these are very good business results and we are seeing numerous positive trends. IKEA is here to stay and I am very happy that I can announce today that we have started the preparatory works for the construction of the Belgrade shopping center, which will be located next to our department store. The investment is worth around EUR 50 million and will create around 400 new jobs. This move is a demonstration of IKEA's strong dedication to the market of Serbia and our desire to develop our operations, expand the commercial zone Bubanj Potok and support local economic development – emphasized Stefan Vanoverbeke, the director of IKEA Serbia and CEO of IKEA South East Europe.
In its first fiscal year in Serbia, IKEA realized a market share of 11%, the biggest one in South East Europe.
Of the nearly 8 million products sold, furniture accounts for 54%, whereas 46% were home accessories and decoration. HEMNES bedroom furniture and IKEA 365+ dinnerware were the most popular products in their respective categories, whereas white proved to be the most popular color.
In order to make the offer even more accessible and establish new points of contact with the customers, IKEA has opened two locations for picking up products bought online in Novi Sad and Nis.
The IKEA Showroom, which served as a temporary showcase space from May till August, has recently been turned into a sales point. With the new permanent lowering of the prices of many product and the home delivery service in the fiscal year 2019, IKEA will continue to invest in making its products available to people in Serbia.
