US Ambassador to Belgrade Kyle Scott stated that American goods were treated unfairly in Serbia on Thursday, October 4, 2018.

At the gathering “Sustainable Recovery in the Balkans – Serbia in the Leading Role”, Scott said that Serbia had several trade partners, such the EU, China, Russia and the USA, but that “it can’t be said that Serbia treats all its partners equally”.

Scott said that there were higher customs tariffs on American goods in Serbia than vice versa and asked if it was fair for entire categories of American agricultural products to have no access to the Serbian market for safety reasons.

Talking about the trade relations of the USA and the European Union, Scott said that the EU had higher customs rates than the USA and that they were four times higher for the import of cars.

The USA and President Donald Trump remain dedicated to free trade, but it needs to be just and reciprocal, Scott said and added the USA would not stand being used.
