Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic said on Friday that Serbia had initiated investments in the construction of energy facilities of the total capacity of 1,000 MW of electrical energy, two thirds of which are to be put into renewable energy sources.

Antic said at the EU-Southeast Europe Summit in Belgrade that, in the past years, Serbia had commissioned capacities of 150 MW from RES and that it would have another 200 before the end of the year.

– The plan is for us to have a total of 600 MW from RES by 2020 – he said and pointed out that his ministry was analyzing the switch from feed-in incentives for the production of electricity from RES to an auction model and estimated that it would bring new investments in RES for Serbia.

He said that EPS had invested EUR 300 million in environmental protection up till then and that the plan was for those investments to exceed 800 million.

The minister said that Serbia had three pillars of energy policy – production of coal in line with EU ecological standards, hydro potentials and energy efficiency.

– The formation of an energy efficiency fund is being planned – Antic said.

As he said, Serbia is considering the possibility of connecting to the Turkish Stream pipeline in order to secure gas supply.
