EU to aid Serbia with 168m EUR - Božidar Đelić and Žozep Ljoveras signed agreement
The Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, Božidar Đelić, and the Head of the delegation of European Commission in Belgrade, Žozep Ljoveras, have signed the agreement in Valjevo on non-refundable aid to Serbia in amount of about 168m EUR, which will be set aside from EU’s IPA fund.
Following the signing of the agreement, Đelić pointed out that it was another installment of total of 1 billion EUR worth of non-refundable funds that EU set aside for Serbia in the period 2007-2012 for realization of reforms in the process of Serbia’s admission to the Union.
Đelić said that those funds would be spent on financing of 36 projects from the various domains, for the better future of Serbia and its citizens.
- Major share of the funds – 45m EUR, will be set aside for local self-government in Serbia – said Đelić.
He reminded that the European Commission had recently indicated in Brussels that it had taken in consideration the allotment of the third installment from IPA fund for year 2009 to Serbia, which would be intended for support to the budget of our country, and estimated that EU and its citizens wanted to back the process of Serbia’s admission to the Union in that way.
