Serbian beef in China – Is there enough meat for export?

The minister pointed out that the question now was “whether Serbia has enough beef for export” and added that the livestock population was growing in Serbia, announcing that one of the biggest cattle farms in the country, with 3,000 head of livestock, would open in Backa Topola in early November.
– France and Great Britain have been trying to export their beef to China for 30 years now without success. We have managed to do so in a year and a half – Nedimovic told TV Pink.
According to him, Serbia needs to look for new markets, because, as he explains, if the price in the EU market is bad, it will always be able to offer its products to other markets.
Regarding the speculations that, according to Chapter 12, farmers will not be able to continue producing traditional ajvar, sauerkraut or rakija, Nedimovic said that “those arguments have been used to scare people for 10 years now”.
– Farmers will be able to produce for their own needs, but there are tools for that and this is something that needs to be worked on. There's a possibility of putting a geographic designation of origin on the merchandise so that the competition would not misuse the brand names. On the other hand, the amounts that farmers will be able to produce will be defined and this is something that we will negotiate about with the EU – Nedimovic said.
