Most people drink coffee immediately after they wake up. However, nutritionists warn that this could be one of the worst habits you have.

According to a recent Reuters survey, more than 85% people in America regularly consume caffeine, but nutritionists say that early morning is perhaps not the best time to drink coffee if you want to feel awake and composed for the rest of the day.

Drinking coffee immediately after waking up can make you nervous and overactive for a long time afterward, but also very tired several hours later.

In the early morning, the organism naturally produces cortisol, which wakes us up. If we add caffeine, which does the same, the effect becomes too strong.

That's why it's best to drink coffee three to four hours after waking up, as the body produces less cortisol then.

Still, not everyone agrees with this theory. Some nutritionists believe that it is not the time of the day that makes that much difference, but the amount we drink. Everyone agrees that we shouldn't drink coffee too late, however. According to a study, coffee can disturb sleep up to six hours later, zadovoljna.hr writes, as reported by B92.
