The Cultural and Information Center Ivo Andric will open on November 29 in Beijing, in the very heart of the art zone 789, which features over 400 galleries, show rooms and cultural centers from all over the world.

The exhibit “A Trip through Contemporary Serbian Art” will open on a 300-m2 area.

Serbian Minister of Culture and Information Vladan Vukosavljevic emphasizes that the opening of the cultural center in Beijing is one of the most important events in Serbia's international cultural cooperation.

– This will be Serbia's second cultural center in the world. The first one is the Cultural and Information Center in Paris, opened in the early 1970s and inherited by Serbia after the breakup of Yugoslavia – Vukosavljevic reminded.

He said that the Cultural Center of Serbia in Beijing will be a platform for the affirmation of the wide range of Serbian culture.

– More and more Chinese tourists are coming to Serbia, and the cultural center will provide them with information on what they should visit and which festivals and events to attend, which cultural monuments to see – Vukosavljevic said.

It will also be a place for modern artists in various fields to present their work.

Vukosavljevic reminds that only a few Serbian authors have had their works translated into Chinese and adds that the Cultural Center will be the place for Chinese publishers to learn about modern Serbian literature, enabling more major works to be translated into Chinese.

A day before the opening, the Serbian Film Week will begin in Beijing. By December 11, several Serbian films will be shown, namely Enclave (Goran Radovanovic), Unplugged (Mladen Kovacevic), We Will be the World Champions (Darko Bajic), Monument to Michael Jackson (Darko Lungulov) and Love isn't Always on Time (Ivan Stefanovic).

– We won't stop there. I believe that in 2019 the conditions will meet for the opening of a cultural center in Moscow, and we are also considering Berlin, London, Vienna and all other places with large Serbian populations and hubs of their respective countries' cultural policies – the minister said.

The acting director of the cultural center in the next six months will be Milena Buric, the head of the Sector for Modern Art and Creative Industries at the Ministry of Culture and Information, after which a job contest for the director will be opened.
