Permit for TurkStream requested from Energy Agency – Completion in 2020?

The director of Srbijagas, Dusan Bajatovic, stated that Serbia was preparing for the construction of TurkStream and that everything was being done in line with European rules.

Bajatovic stated on TV Prva that a permit for the construction of TurkStream through Serbia had been requested from the Energy Agency of Serbia and that the project is now being considered by the Energy Community, which has 60 days to make the decision on the matter.

– Everything is ready for the construction of this pipeline – Bajatovic said, as reported by B92.

When it was pointed out to him that everything had been ready for South Stream as well, which fell through, Bajatovic said that there was a huge difference.

– South Stream was being realized based on an interstate agreement, and this one is being done in line with Serbia’s Law on Energy, which implements all the rules of the Third Energy Package, and the papers have been prepared so that the decision cannot be negative – the director of Srbijagas says.

Bajatovic said that there was no reason to fear professional challenges in the project.

He pointed out that another big difference compared to South Stream was that the first branch of TurkStream through the Black Sea has already been laid down, whereas the second one, which should deliver gas to the coast of Turkey, through Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary to Slovakia, or maybe Austria, is effectively halfway through the Black Sea route at 2,200 meters.

Bajatovic says that the plan was to have the Serbian section of TurkStream completed in 2020.
