The National Milk Control Laboratory will get accredited this Friday or Monday and, with the amendments to the Law on Food Safety, get the status of the state's referential laboratory, Serbian Agriculture Minister Branislav Nedimovic announced today.

He explained that this would enable the state to have the right and the monopoly of control of everything in its market.

Nedimovic told the press that, in addition to milk, the quality of which the state has been controlling for over a year, the plan was for the state to also establish national reference laboratories for over 95% of the food products in Serbia before April 2019.

– Once something is imported and needs to be analyzed in a laboratory, the analysis can be carried out in an accredited private lab, but we will do the superanalysis – Nedimovic said.

He also says that the aim is to prevent situations where importers of goods are also owners of the labs controlling those goods.

– If everything is regular, we will pay the costs of the analysis, but if irregularities are detected, the perpetrator will need to pay for the potential damage to the market – Nedimovic said.
