The provincial secretary for energy, construction and transport, Nenad Grbic, handed over 33 contracts to representatives of the public institutions in Vojvodina that received a total of RSD 8 million in grants for the preparation of energy efficiency study.

According to Grbic, the funds are provided within the Energy Efficiency Program of the Provincial Secretariat for Energy, Construction and Transport of Vojvodina.

He said that the preparation of this study was the first step toward carrying out energy efficiency measures in public institution facilities – schools, preschool institutions, health centers and libraries. At the same time, the study is a necessary step, which enables institutions to apply for incentives from EU funds.

– Keeping in mind the importance of energy sources for the development of a society and an economy, and also the directives and projections of the EU, aiming to reduce the consumption of energy sources by 41% by 2050, we plan to increase the funds for the preparation of studies in 2019 to RSD 9.5 million – Grbic said.

He said that the doors and the windows on 55% of the buildings of public institutions were 20-30 years old on average and added that fluorescent lighting had been installed in 88% of the buildings, whereas LED lighting was only present in 3% of the buildings.

Grbic added that only 12% of the buildings in Vojvodina had an energy passport and pointed out the fact that 89% of the buildings had not even been examined. As for the roofs, energy efficiency measures have been carried out on only 3% of the buildings, whereas 62% of the roofs have not been examined.

– This is why we intend to form a budget fund which would primarily deal with carrying out energy efficiency measures for public institutions and natural persons – Grbic said and added that the goal was to reduce the consumption of energy sources and environmental pollution and to unburden the budgets of institutions and households.
