Facilities storing food of animal origin will be categorized and required to meet higher standards from March 1, 2019.

The Government of Serbia has adopted the Decree on the Categorization and Facility Upgrade Procedure, under which the facilities will be divided into four categories, from those that are harmonized with the EU regulations to those that aren't and can't meet EU standards, and in order to improve the hygienic conditions of food of animal origin.

The decree pertains to facilities authorized for the export of food of animal origin to the EU, those that produce small amounts of primary products of animal origin and facilities with special geographic limitations.

The decree comes into effect on the eight day from the publication in the Official Gazette and will start being implemented on March 1, 2019.
