This Christmas, Austrians mostly gifted money to their friends and relatives. According to durchblicker.at, each second Austrian got a monetary gift in the average amount of EUR 256.

A total of around EUR 963 million was gifted in cash. Three out of four gifted euros will be spent immediately, whereas the rest is saved.

Older people tend to gift money more than younger ones.

– At Christmas, a lot of money is transferred from the older to the younger generation. Most money, however, is spent immediately – explains Reinhold Baudisch, the director of the portal.

Aside from cash, the most frequent gifts were store vouchers, travel vouchers, books, films and video games.
