Among the 40 nominated projects, for the first time, a project from Serbia, the reconstruction of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade (which reopened in 2017), the work of architect Dejan Todorovic, has been shortlisted for the Mies van der Rohe Award, the EU contemporary architecture prize, to be awarded on May 7 in Barcelona.

As announced by the European Commission, which awards this prize together with the Spanish foundation Mies van der Rohe, the reconstructed museum is one of the works shortlisted among 383 projects. The shortlisted works are spread out in 17 European countries, and the reconstructed museum is one of the 15 works in the Culture category, the most represented program. Other categories include Education, Collective Housing, Health, Infrastructure, Sport & Leisure…

The seven finalists will be revealed in mid-February. According to the jury, excellence and skillfulness are inherent in all the shortlisted works, which emphasize the need for architects to think differently about the profession, where the current incentive is to “do more with less: more architecture with less material, less costs”, Politika writes.
