Construction of Belgrade gondola to start in May

The construction of the gondola that will link Kalemegdan and Usce will begin in May, Mayor of Belgrade Zoran Radojicic announced for Tanjug, as reported by Beoinfo. He pointed out that the gondola would be a great tourist attraction and a modern means of transport.

– The plan is to have 25 cabins, one of which will be a luxury cabin – the mayor clarified and added that each cabin would have ten seats.

He specified that the cabins will be equipped for transporting people with disabilities and that they would also be able to carry bicycles.

– The trip will take around 5 minutes. The route of the future gondola is around one kilometer long, and it will be able to transport 3,000 people each hour at the speed of 5-6 m/s – Radojicic said.

He reminded that the agreement with the contractor was signed last year under a turnkey system, which means that the contractor needs to prepare the project-technical documentation necessary for the obtaining of a building permit, after which it will be given 275 days to complete the works.

According to an expert estimate, Radojicic says, the money invested should return in about six years.

The City of Belgrade finances around a third, whereas the Republic of Serbia, that is, the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, finances around two thirds of the project.

The contractors are Leitner S.p.a Vipiten, KOTO, Elkoms and Del ing.
