Serbian Minister of Agriculture Branislav Nedimovic and Hungarian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade Levente Magyar, attended the laying of the foundation stone for the H&S Fruits plant for the processing of fruit, a joint investment of Serbia and Hungary, on Tuesday, March 12, in Arilje.

On that occasion, Nedimovic said that, in the first phase, the Arilje plant would produce mashes and fruit concentrates. According to him, additional processing will be carried out in Hungary, whereas, in later phases, the entire production process should be carried out in Arilje.

The minister said that the initiative for the construction of the factory had been launched in 2016, when a joint session of the governments of Serbia and Hungary was held, and that the Government of Serbia had sought partners, successful and capable Hungarian and Serbian companies, in the preceding year.

This will result in the export of the concentrate which is the byproduct of the processing of industrial raspberries and other fruit, Nedimovic said and reminded that the government had decided in January to set aside special funds for the development of the food industry.

He thanked the Hungarian colleagues for recognizing Serbia as a good political partner and added that Hungary had set aside EUR 32 million for investments in the Western Balkans.

Magyar reminded that the laying of the foundation stone for H&S Fruits in Arilje was the result of the talks of the prime ministers of Serbia and Hungary and the desire to have Hungarian investments expanded outside the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. He said that investors recognized the support that the Government of Serbia provides for investors.

The pertinent memorandum was signed in Budapest, February 9, 2018.
