Construction of Morava Corridor to begin in June?

Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic has announced that the construction of the Morava Corridor, from Pojate to Preljina, should begin in June 2019.

She discussed the project with the mayors and presidents of the municipalities the highway will go through, and representatives of companies and institutes which take part in the engineering design and construction of the corridor, the ministry announced.

Mihajlovic pointed out that the Morava Corridor was very important for Serbia, as it would connect the central part of the country with Corridors 10 and 11 and contribute to the economic development and improve the quality of life for citizens.

– My ministry is here to provide you with all the necessary help and support in order for the preparatory works to be completed on time, primarily related to the expropriation of parcels, so that the construction of the Morava Corridor would begin this June – she said, addressing the presidents of the local self-governments.

She added that the realization of large infrastructural projects started this year and that she expected all public companies and companies in the construction business to do the best job they can.

In October 2018, the Memorandum of understanding and cooperation on the construction of the Morava Corridor, the 110-km road between Pojate and Preljina, was signed between Bechtel and Enka. The works have been evaluated at around EUR 800 million.

The meeting was attended by the mayors of Cacak, Kraljevo and Krusevac, the presidents of the municipalities of Vrnjacka Banja, Trstenik and Cicevac, the director of the PE Roads of Serbia, representatives of the Corridors of Serbia, CIP, the Highway Institute, the Republic Geodetic Authority and the Jaroslav Cerni Institute.
